Besides seating charts, syllabi, books, supplies, and other administrative things, I have two tasks for students on the first day of school. Both of these would actually be great activities when spending time with family and friends.
I needed to make some accommodations for one of my students this week - copies of peer notes and a weekly guide. This was no problem and required 5-10 minutes of work per day. Having spent entirely too much time studying marginal costs as an undergrad, I figured the marginal cost to make these accommodations for all students was an extra 2 minutes and the return on investment would be high for students, parents, and the district.
